Dogs Fighting Bears, ca. 1812/16
Oil on canvas, 28 x 37 cm
Bazin 769
The pack of almost savage dogs, having fastened on the bears, has become an inextricable tangle. The silken tautness of thehorse paintings has here given way to a freely conceived impasto composition, a gristly Baroque work.
